The University of Kansas Health System is the Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Provider of 38 high schools and middle schools in these Kansas school districts: Blue Valley, De Soto, Gardner Edgerton, Lansing, Olathe, Osawatomie, Paola, Prairie View, Shawnee Mission, Spring Hill, Wellsville.
Caitlin Truhe joined The University of Kansas Health System Sports Medicine and Performance Center in August 2014. She is currently the head athletic trainer at Blue Valley High School.
Truhe is an integral part of the athletic program at the school. She works closely with coaches, administration, and parents to ensure student athletes are prepared to perform at their maximum potential, but most of all, that they are safe and injury-free.
“I am the front line of helping protect student athletes on and off the field,” said Truhe. “It is my responsibility to the athlete and the team to advocate for what is best for the athlete’s health.”
Truhe not only provides medical care for injuries, she focuses on education. She believes a safe athletic environment is created by the preparation of athletes, coaches and staff for emergency situations, injury prevention, and care of athletes."
Truhe moved around quite a bit as a child, but settled in Topeka, Kansas. She has a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Washburn University, a master’s degree in health professions education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and is a member of both the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Kansas Athletic Trainers Society. Truhe previously served on the District 5 Young Professional Committee as the Kansas Young Professional Representative. Most recently she accepted the President-Elect position for the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society. After a three-year term, she will assume the Presidency.
Prior to joining the Sports Medicine and Performance Center team, she worked as an athletic trainer with the Washburn University women’s soccer and softball teams for two years. She was also a PRN for OrthoKansas, helping to cover high school sporting events.
Truhe likes spending time with her family. She enjoys good coffee and staying active with yoga. In her spare time, she also loves crafts and DIY projects.
